• Tuesday through Friday: Walk-in ceremonies available, no appointment necessary.
• In-person ceremonies conducted on Tuesday through Friday from 9am to 11:30am and 2pm to 3:30pm.

• Saturday: In-person ceremonies are by appointment only at 9am.

In order to tie the knot in Cook County, both partners need to obtain their marriage license from the Cook County Clerk’s office, which comes with a $60 price tag. Ensure you secure your marriage license at least one day prior to your ceremony. Remember, these licenses are valid for 60 days and must be acquired in the county where your wedding will take place.

••••WHERE TO GO ••••

The marriage ceremonies take place on the lower level of City Hall, which is across the street from where you obtained your license. To enter easily, head to 119 W. Randolph St. Once inside the first set of doors, you'll find an escalator on your left leading down to the marriage court. Make sure to arrive and check in at least 30 minutes before the session ends and pay a $10 fee. Although you can bring up to 15 guests, be aware that the room might feel cramped with that many people!

Getting married at Chicago City Hall is a whirlwind experience that blends simplicity with significance. The ceremony typically lasts around five minutes, a brief yet profound moment marking the start of a new chapter. Sometimes, there's no wait at all, while other times, couples may find themselves waiting for up to an hour. Once inside the small room, couples are allowed up to 10 guests, though it can feel snug with that many people. There's no pressure to prepare anything to say during the ceremony, but if couples want to add a personal touch, they can share a few brief words with the judge beforehand. It's a charmingly intimate affair, filled with love and the promise of a lifetime together.
