Chicago winter elopement days like Jacob and Crystal’s are exactly why I love photographing city hall weddings. This Chicago winter elopement took place on a cold, gloomy winter day, the kind where the sky feels soft and gray and the city moves a little slower. It set the tone perfectly for a day that was intimate, emotional, and full of meaning.
I met Jacob and Crystal at Chicago City Hall where they officially said “I do.” They traveled in from New York City to elope, choosing Chicago as the place to start this next chapter together. Even before the ceremony began, you could feel how much this moment meant to them. The ceremony itself was incredibly emotional, with tears from both of them as they exchanged vows. It was quiet, heartfelt, and so genuine.
Afterward, they decided to step aside and share private vows with each other inside Chicago City Hall. It was one of those moments that felt like the rest of the building disappeared, just the two of them soaking it all in. These are the kinds of moments that make a Chicago winter elopement so special. There is space to slow down and really be present.
Once we wrapped up photos around City Hall, we headed out into the city. We walked to the Chicago Theater for classic city portraits, then over to the Wrigley Building where the river and architecture gave us such a timeless backdrop. Even with the cold, Jacob and Crystal were all smiles, completely leaning into the experience.
We ended the evening at Ghirardelli with hot chocolate, which honestly felt like the perfect way to wrap up the day. Warm drinks, a little sugar, and that just-married glow. This Chicago winter elopement was simple, emotional, and so much fun, and it fit Jacob and Crystal perfectly.
What an amazing couple and such a meaningful day. Congratulations, Jacob and Crystal!
