I had the great honor of capturing Puja and Kunal’s stunning Drake Hotel Indian wedding, and I couldn’t have been more excited when they first reached out to me about photographing their special day. Throughout 2024, I got to know them during their engagement session and another couple’s shoot with their adorable dog, Murphy. By the time their wedding day arrived, I felt like I was photographing old friends.

Indian weddings hold a special place in my heart. I love the vibrant colors, rich traditions, and the sheer joy that fills every moment. Each Indian wedding I shoot is a feast for the senses—from the intricate henna designs to the stunning jewelry and elaborate floral arrangements. There is something so beautiful about the blend of deep-rooted traditions with modern celebrations, and I feel truly honored to document these moments.

Getting Ready

The wedding day began with an early morning start for me and my second shooter. We knew it would be a long day, but the excitement in the air kept us energized. Puja’s bridal suite was filled with laughter, love, and anticipation as she got ready. Her jewelry was absolutely breathtaking, and I made sure to capture every intricate detail. The rich golds, deep reds, and sparkling embellishments created a stunning visual story.

Meanwhile, Kunal was outside, ready for the Bhaarat—a lively and celebratory wedding procession where the groom arrives with family and friends, accompanied by music and dancing. The energy was infectious as guests cheered, danced, and welcomed Kunal in grand fashion. It was such an incredible moment to photograph!

The ceremony, held inside the Drake Hotel, was filled with love, laughter, and vibrant traditions. Every moment was a reminder of the beauty and significance of an Indian wedding. After the ceremony, we captured family portraits, followed by couple and wedding party photos across the street from the Drake Hotel—one of my favorite backdrops for classic Chicago wedding portraits.

As the evening continued, cocktail hour led into a lively reception. The speeches were heartfelt, with laughter echoing through the room. And when the dance floor opened, it was packed all night long with guests celebrating with the couple. The energy was absolutely electric!

We ended the night with a magical couple’s portrait outside the hotel, featuring Puja and Kunal in a striking red Mustang—a perfect way to wrap up their incredible day.
