Heritage Prairie Farm Wedding: Ariyel & Jake

Heritage Prairie Farm in Elburn has been a bucket-list venue for me for as long as I can remember. The moment I heard Jake and Ariyel had chosen this beautiful location for their wedding and wanted me to capture their day, I was thrilled. I’ve always dreamed of shooting at Heritage Prairie Farm, and it was finally happening!

Getting Ready

I arrived early in the morning, and you could feel the energy in the air. The excitement of everyone getting ready was contagious. I started with Ariyel, capturing lots of candid moments with her bridesmaids. They laughed, shared stories, and helped her prepare for the big day. There’s something special about those getting-ready moments—the joy, the nerves, the anticipation—and it was clear that this was going to be an unforgettable day.

First Look

Jake and Ariyel decided to do a first look, and we set it up outside the main farmhouse. The moment they saw each other was pure magic—both of them were so excited, and it was a beautiful thing to witness. After the first look, we took a relaxed walk around the farm, snapping photos along the way. They wanted a documentary-style approach to their wedding photography, so it was all about capturing the natural, unposed moments that unfolded between them. We ended our walk in the greenhouse, where I captured some of my favorite portraits of the day.

Wedding Party

Next, it was time to focus on the wedding party. I had so much fun with the groomsmen—they were full of energy and up for anything. The bridesmaids, dressed in vibrant yellow, were equally wonderful to photograph. Afterward, Jake and Ariyel took a moment to themselves, hiding away to finish writing their vows and relax before the ceremony.

The ceremony took place under a stunning oak tree and was officiated by Ariyel’s aunt, which added a personal touch that I loved. The entire scene was like something out of a storybook—the oak tree, the sunlight filtering through the leaves, the bridesmaids in their bright yellow dresses. It was a truly beautiful moment.

And then there was the cocktail hour—what a blast! A magician wandered through the crowd, amazing guests with his tricks, and there were plenty of lawn games to keep everyone entertained. The reception followed under a gorgeous white tent, where the tables were adorned with wildflowers, adding to the farm’s rustic charm. Jake and Ariyel shared a sweet first dance before the dance floor filled up with guests eager to celebrate.

As the sun began to set, the three of us snuck away for a few last photos beneath that big oak tree. It was a perfect way to end the day, capturing the love and happiness that Jake and Ariyel share.

Congratulations, Jake and Ariyel! Your Heritage Prairie Farm wedding was everything I dreamed it would be, and I’m so grateful to have been a part of it. Here’s to many more beautiful memories ahead!
